Educational School Tours

Killinkere Pet Farm
The junior classes went to Killinkere Pet Farm.
They got to see many animals including rabbits, horses and pigs. They also enjoyed a nature walk and tractor ride
They has a great time.

Arigna Mines
On the 6th June 1st class - 6th class attended Arigna Mines in Carrick-on-Shannon.
On arrival the children explored the exhibition area and watched a 25 minute DVD about the mines. They were then brought on a tour of the mines by an ex miner which is literally a journey through a miner's life. The dripping of water, the intensity of the darkness, the sight of the cramped areas in which the miners lay on their sides in pools of water as they dug out coal.
It was an amazing experience.

Zipit Lough Key Forest Park

After our tour of Arigna we went to Zipit in Roscommon.
Zipit has platforms on trees at various heights (ranging from 1 metre to 20 metres off the ground) which are connected by a range of activities, such as rope bridges, swinging logs, cargo nets and ziplines, allowing you to move from one tree to another.
There are five different circuits, with each one getting a little bit more challenging than the previous.
All children participated and had a great time.

Heather Bothwell

Heather Bothwell From Heritage for Schools spent the afternoon with 5th & 6th Class in our wild garden talking about All Ireland Pollinator Plan 2015-2020. She also spoke about the solitary bee and pollinator friendly actions we can take to encourage them into our garden.
Heather introduced Yellow Rattle to our wildflower garden in December 2014 and she was very excited to see that it is now growing successfully.
Thanks Heather for a very informative talk.
