PUBLISH A POEM AWARDS!

Our wonderful poets from 3rd and 4th class were honoured in an awards ceremony in the Garage Theatre Monaghan on Tuesday 30th May 2017.
Congratulations to Brandon Brady, Ned Bevis, Conor Carlin Roche, Erin Manning, Saoirse Shanley and Summer Small whose poems have been published in a poetry book titled " The Drumlins Speak in Verse".

This is an anthology of children's poetry compiled by the Publish a Poem competition co-ordinators in conjunction with Monaghan Education Centre and sponsored by the Rotary Club Monaghan.
The poetry project began last November with some schools from Monaghan and Cavan partaking.  Class teachers explored various poetry genres such as Haiku, Cinquain, Acrostic and Limericks with their classes.  Following a class poetry workshop children's poetry was brought to Monaghan Education Centre and assessed.

Congratulations also to Aine O Reilly, Craig Corrigan and Aidan O Reilly for winning Highly Commended prizes for their poetry.
All children received medals and certificates for their work and those whose poems were published received a free copy of the book.

Health Promoting School

For the last two years we have been working towards obtaining our Health Promoting School Flag.
The Health Promoting Schools Flag’ is presented by the HSE to schools as an acknowledgement of their work in improving the health of their school communities. The programme supports schools to focus on health and well-being and involves all members of the school community. Students, staff, parents and guardians are consulted to identify priority health areas. Over a period of  2 school years schools develop an action plan to address the health areas identified.  Schools are guided to address their priority area under the following evidence based categories: environment (social and physical) curriculum, policies and partnerships. Schools work, at their own pace, supported by the HSE Health Promotion & Improvement Dept. In each school, a Healthy Ireland-Health Promoting Schools coordinator and Healthy Ireland-Health Promoting Schools team lead out on the progression of health and well-being and this work is supported by the school principal, board of management and wider school community.
We are delighted to say that Scoil Bhríde has been awarded this flag.
We would like to say a 'Big Thank You' to all involved especially Ms Monica McCrory HSE, Our Health Promotion Team, which included Mrs O'Neill, Siobhán, Caroline Wood parent representative, Grainne, Oran, Aaron and Katelyn.
Well done to all pupils in the school.
Thank you to all parents and guardians who assisted in surveys and questionnaires.

Nest boxes

We discovered that we have starlings nesting in one of our swift nest boxes, but we are continuing to play our swift songs to hopefully encourage other swifts to our vacant boxes.
We also have Blue Tits nesting in another box. They have 3 chicks and are doing great. Below are some photos of them in their nest.

The Daily Mile

Everyone here at Scoil Bhríde is participating in The Daily Mile.
The aim of the Daily Mile is to improve the physical, emotional and social health and wellbeing of our children – regardless of age or personal circumstances.
It is a profoundly simple but effective concept. Its impact can be transformational- improving not only the children's’ fitness, but also their concentration levels, mood, behaviour and general wellbeing.
We started on Tuesday 2nd May and every day at 11.50 all pupils and staff go outside to walk, skip or run.

Fire Safety Talk

Fire Safety Talk

FIRE SAFETY TALK TO 3RD AND 4TH CLASSES
Local fire fighters, Peter Brady, Ronan Kearns and Shane Murphy came in to talk to 3rd and 4th classes about fire safety in the home.
They showed the children the instruments they use and the safety gear they wear whenever they have to enter a burning building.
They also discussed how to keep our homes safe and how to make a fire escape plan at home.
The children really enjoyed the talk.  Thank you very much to Killeshandra Fire Brigade.
