Green Schools Award Ceremony

On 23rd May Siobhán, Mrs Coyne, Ella and Saoirse attended the National Green Flag Awards Ceremony in Gormanstown Co Meath where we were presented with our 4th Green Flag for Global Citizenship for Marine Environment.
We would just like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who was involved in the programme  over the last two years.
We will be starting work on our next flag in September, so we will keep you updated here on our blog.

Swifts Update

We are delighted to announce that we have swifts nesting in one of our nest boxes here at the school.
Last year we had starlings in our swift box but following the advice from Brian and Ricky of Birdwatch Ireland we made the entrance hole on the nestbox smaller so that they were unable to gain entry this year.
We have been playing swift calls via a small speaker from one of the classroom windows for the last two years and our persistence has paid off.
We even managed to film the birds leaving the nest.
A big 'Thank You' to Heather Bothwell our local Heritage for Schools Officer for all her advice and support through the years and also to Brian Caffrey and Ricky Whelan of Bird Watch Ireland for their valued guidance and support.

Bees Bees Bees

Killeshandra Tidy Towns Committee kindly sponsored Butterfly and Bee nets and swatches for the school under the 2018 Pollinator Award.
The Busy Bee Group are out and about on the yard taking note of the various bees and butterflies in our garden.
The children spotted an Orange Tip Butterfly but unfortunately we were not quick enough to get a photograph this time.
We will keep you informed of any more visitors.

Robbie

Robbie,
You drove us safely everyday and you always wore a smile.
So here's the thanks you deserve for each and every mile

Today we said a sad farewell to our beloved bus driver, Robbie.

He has safely driven children to school for the past 37 years and he retired today.
We would like to wish him a happy retirement as he starts a new chapter in his life.
The bus children presented Robbie with some cards as a token of their gratitude.
The Board of Management also gave Robbie a gift in appreciation of his service to the school children.
