We are delighted to announce that we have swifts nesting in one of our nest boxes here at the school.
Last year we had starlings in our swift box but following the advice from Brian and Ricky of Birdwatch Ireland we made the entrance hole on the nestbox smaller so that they were unable to gain entry this year.
We have been playing swift calls via a small speaker from one of the classroom windows for the last two years and our persistence has paid off.
We even managed to film the birds leaving the nest.
A big 'Thank You' to Heather Bothwell our local Heritage for Schools Officer for all her advice and support through the years and also to Brian Caffrey and Ricky Whelan of Bird Watch Ireland for their valued guidance and support.
