Update to Parents 5th May 2020

5th May 2020
Dear Parents,
As you will know, An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar announced last Friday 1st May that schools will definitely
not be reopening before September. None of us could have imagined this scenario unfolding at the
beginning of the year. We are all learning to live and work in a new way for the health and safety of
all of our citizens.
This has come as a huge shock to us staff, you as parents and most importantly all the boys and girls
from Junior Infants to 6th class. Children have been asked to do something so unimaginable-stay away
from friends, family, classmates, teachers and they have lost the daily routine of school which makes
remote learning difficult.
All of the staff feel especially for our First Communion and Confirmation children who have had to
postpone their big day. Rest assured that if we get some clarity on the possibility of rearranging these
sacraments, we will have a lovely celebration.
We especially think of our 6th class pupils at this time. It is very strange for you and your families and
we hope we can give you the graduation you truly deserve before your transition to secondary school.
Remote/Distance Learning:
As per Department Guidelines, all teachers have been providing remote lessons and learning
opportunities based on the curriculum content for each class level in a structured and easy to access
manner through our blog since before Easter. Teachers have been engaging with parents and pupils
via email. We are delighted with the work being submitted by pupils thus far.
As we now have clarity that the rest of the school year will take place out of school, we wish to advise
you of the following changes to our remote learning plan for the remainder of the term.
-Teachers will continue to upload a weekly work plan each Monday on their class blogs.
(Blogs can be accessed on mobile phones also.)
-In order for teachers to ensure children are engaging with remote learning and to help inform
teachers’ future planning and assessment of pupils we now require a minimum of
TWO pieces of work to be submitted per pupil per week via email.
-We suggest that your child chooses two of their favourite pieces of work done during the week.
-Work can be submitted as a document, screenshot or photograph.
-Teachers will provide feedback on work submitted.
-Corrections for senior classes will still be provided on the class blogs weekly for children to
self-correct at their own discretion.
-Any other queries or correspondence can be emailed to the teachers via email addresses provided.

We understand that remote/distance learning is a very different experience in every household which
is why we only ask for TWO pieces of work to be submitted per WEEK. All other work is to be done at your own discretion, however we would encourage children in
the senior classes to try to work on some of the lessons provided daily if possible.
We wish to take this opportunity to thank you all for your ongoing cooperation and support and to
send our best wishes and prayers to you and each member of your families.
Take care everybody,
Staff of Scoil Bhríde
